About

I’m Tom’s dad — accidental expert in toddler wrangling and now, unexpectedly, type 1 diabetes. By day I work in IT within the world of education, which basically means I spend most of my time fixing things that were definitely working yesterday. I’m a bit of a nerd, happiest when tinkering with tech, organising systems, or pretending that spreadsheets count as a hobby.

This blog is my way of making sense of our family’s new journey — of documenting the steep learning curve, the hard moments, the unexpected wins, and the wonderfully ordinary days that now involve carb counting and blood-sugar graphs. If you’ve found your way here, thank you for reading, and welcome to our little corner of the internet.

I’m simply here to tell our story. If any of this helps someone recognise the early signs of type 1, gives another parent a sense of solidarity at 3 a.m., or just makes someone feel a little less alone, that’s a win in my book.

And as a lifelong tech enthusiast, I have to admit I’m genuinely amazed by the tools that now support toddlers with type 1. The fact that I can track my 16-month-old’s glucose levels from my phone still blows my mind — not the sort of gadgetry I imagined parenting would involve, but here we are.
